Office of Occupational Health and Safety, Animal Welfare and Environmental Protection
Welcome to the Office of Occupational Health and Safety, Animal Welfare and Environmental Protection at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg!
Our main aims are to ensure sustainable health of our staff and students by providing them with a safe working environment as well as to secure an environmentally friendly, resource-efficient and economical disposal of waste. We also help make sure that mistakes and problems in occupational safety and in dealing with biological, chemical and radioactive agents are recognised and can be stopped or prevented at an early stage.
As a scientific institution, the University of Würzburg is particularly committed to the protection of laboratory animals. A member of our office, the University’s Animal Welfare Officer is responsible for the implementation of existing legislation on animal welfare. Housing of laboratory animals and the use of animals for scientific purposes have to follow high scientific standards and must be carried out as carefully as possible. The Animal Welfare Officer pays attention to the compliance with regulations and standards concerning the care and use of laboratory animals and gives advice on how these goals can be reached.
Communicating closely with staff at all hierarchy levels, communicating closely with the persons in charge, we aim to convince the persons responsible as well as all staff members that it is in their own interest to consider complying with the respective objectives and procedures defined in various regulations governing health and safety, animal welfare and environmental protection a voluntary activity, not an unpleasant duty.
Within the scope of the tasks assigned to us, we offer staff training courses as well as help and support, in particular for those responsible in the workplace, to make sure that all activities in the fields of research, teaching etc. can run smoothly and without interruption. Over the course of many years, the Office of Occupational Health and Safety, Animal Welfare and Environmental Protection has accumulated a wealth of expertise for you to benefit from.
